Gather Your Ingredients

Before you dive into the cooking process, it’s essential to get everything organized. Here’s what you’ll need:

• For the Meatloaf:

• 1 pound of ground beef

• ½ cup of chopped onion

• ½ cup of breadcrumbs

• 1 egg

• ¼ cup of milk

• 1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar works great!)

• 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

• Salt and pepper to taste

• For the Mashed Potatoes:

• 2 pounds of potatoes, peeled and diced

• ½ cup of sour cream

• ¼ cup of butter

• Salt to taste

• Toppings:

• ½ cup of crumbled Turkey Bacon

• ½ cup of chopped Chicken Ham

• Additional shredded cheese for topping

Gathering these ingredients ahead of time will make the cooking process smoother and more enjoyable, guaranteeing you won’t be scrambling around later!

Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture

Once everything is set, it's time to create that delicious meatloaf mixture. In a large bowl, combine:

• The ground beef
• Chopped onion
• Breadcrumbs
• Egg
• Milk
• Garlic powder
• Salt and pepper

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly—using your hands often gives you the best result. Make sure all items are well incorporated for even flavor!

Layer the Meatloaf in the Baking Dish

Take a baking dish and lightly grease it to prevent sticking. Shape the meatloaf mixture into a loaf and place it in the center of the dish. Now’s your chance to make it visually appealing! Flatten the top a bit to help with even cooking, so the edges don’t crisp up too early.

Make the Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes

While the meatloaf mixture is resting, let’s focus on those creamy mashed potatoes. Boil the diced potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15 minutes). Drain, then return to the pot and mash them up. Stir in the sour cream and butter, adding salt to taste. The sour cream lends a nice tang and creaminess to the potatoes!

Assemble the Casserole

Now we’re nearing the finish line! Spread the sour cream mashed potatoes over the meatloaf in an even layer. This is where you get to be creative—sprinkle the crumbled Turkey Bacon and chopped Chicken Ham on top. To finish, add a layer of shredded cheese to give that melty goodness we all love. Your Cheesy Loaded Meatloaf Casserole is already looking pretty fantastic!

Bake Covered and Then Uncovered

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and pop it into a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 45 minutes. This helps the meatloaf cook through without drying out. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and let it bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden. The divine aroma wafting through your kitchen at this point will be almost unbearable!

Cooking Tips and Notes for Cheesy Loaded Meatloaf Casserole

When preparing your Cheesy Loaded Meatloaf Casserole, a few key points can take your dish from good to exceptional.

Choose the Right Protein

• Ground Beef: Opt for lean ground beef to reduce excess fat while keeping all that rich flavor. Aim for 80/20 for balance.
• Add Chicken Ham: For a unique twist, include diced chicken ham. It adds a delightful savory note without overpowering the dish.

Spice it Up

• Seasoning: Don’t just stick with salt and pepper. Experiment with garlic powder, onion powder, or even a dash of chili flakes for an extra kick. A touch of Worcestershire sauce can deepen the flavor profile.

Cheese Matter

• Cheese Selection: Use a combination of cheeses like sharp cheddar and mozzarella for a nice melt and flavor contrast. Incorporating cream cheese can also make your casserole creamier.

Bake it Right

• Avoid Overbaking: Keep an eye on your casserole; overbaking can dry it out. A thermometer should read 160°F for the beef to ensure it’s safe and juicy.
