Gather Your Ingredients

First things first: you need to gather all the necessary ingredients. Here’s what you’re going to need for this delicious brownie creation:

• For the Brownie Batter:

• 1 cup of unsalted butter

• 2 cups of granulated sugar

• 4 large eggs

• 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

• 1 cup of all-purpose flour

• 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder

• ½ teaspoon of salt

• ½ teaspoon of baking powder

• For the Toppings:

• 1 cup of creamy peanut butter

• 1 cup of assorted candy (such as M&M's or crushed Oreo cookies)

• ½ cup of mini marshmallows (optional for extra sweetness)

Before you start mixing, make sure you have your favorite baking pan ready. A 9x13-inch pan works perfectly for this recipe. Check out The Kitchn for tips on choosing the best baking dish if you’re unsure!

Prepare the Brownie Batter

Now it’s time to create that luscious brownie batter. Here’s how you can do it effortlessly:

1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave until it’s completely melted.
2. In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar, stirring until it’s well blended.
3. Add in the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix thoroughly after each addition. Don’t rush this step; it helps give your brownies that classic fudgy texture.
4. Stir in the vanilla extract, followed by the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Beat it until just combined. Be careful not to overmix — you want it smooth but not fluffy.

Sprinkle the Toppings Before Baking

Here comes the fun part—sprinkling on your favorite toppings! After preparing the batter, pour it into your greased baking pan and spread it evenly. Here’s where we unleash the peanut butter goodness:

1. Dollop the peanut butter on top of the brownie batter. You can even use a knife or a skewer to swirl it into the batter for an aesthetically pleasing look.
2. Sprinkle your chosen candy on top of the peanut butter. Feel free to add more or less depending on how indulgent you’re feeling!

Bake to Perfection

With everything layered beautifully in your baking pan, it’s time to get your brownies into the oven.

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Bake the brownies for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. The exact baking time can vary depending on your oven, so keep an eye on them.

Cool and Frost the Brownies

Once baked, allow your brownies to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Trust me; this cooling step is crucial if you want to frost them easily. After they’re cool, here’s a fun idea:

• Frost with a layer of chocolate ganache or simply serve them as-is! The warm brownie with its gooey topping will have your taste buds dancing.

Making Them Gluten-Free

• Use gluten-free flour blends. Many brands offer blends that mimic all-purpose flour perfectly.
• Opt for certified gluten-free oats if you’re including them in your base. Oats can sometimes be cross-contaminated during processing.
• Ensure your toppings are gluten-free. Check labels, especially for candies that might contain gluten or shared equipment warnings.

Cooking Tips for Peanut Butter Candy Topped Brownies

Ensure Even Baking

When crafting your peanut butter candy topped brownies, achieving that perfect texture is key. To ensure even baking:

• Check Your Oven Temperature: Use an oven thermometer. Sometimes, our ovens don’t show the correct temperature, which can lead to uneven baking.
• Rotate the Pan: Halfway through, give your baking pan a spin. This simple trick helps in distributing heat evenly, leading to uniformly baked brownies.

How to Avoid Undercooked Centers

Nobody enjoys a gooey brownie center that feels raw. To avoid this pitfall:

• Use the Toothpick Test: Insert a toothpick in the center—if it comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter), you’re good to go.
• Adjust Baking Times: If you’re baking in a dark or glass pan, consider reducing the baking time slightly as these materials can cook faster.

A practical tip? Always trust your instincts—experience plays a huge role in baking perfection. Have you ever tested a new recipe only to find it didn’t turn out as expected? You're not alone, and that’s how we learn! For more insights, check out King Arthur Baking's guide on brownies.
