Step-by-step Preparation of Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Gravy Bowl

Making an easy slow cooker chicken gravy bowl is not only simple but also a comforting way to enjoy a hearty meal any day of the week. Let’s dive into the steps you’ll need to take to create this delicious dish that’s perfect for busy young professionals.

Preparing the chicken breasts

To start, you need to choose the right chicken. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are the best option since they cook evenly and shred beautifully.

• Ingredients needed:
• 2-3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
• Salt and pepper to taste

Gently rinse your chicken breasts under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This helps to remove any residual impurities. Next, season both sides with salt and pepper. This might seem simple, but seasoning is key to ensuring each bite is tasty.

If you want to switch it up, you can also add a sprinkle of garlic powder or Italian seasoning for extra flavor.

Whisking together the gravy mixture

Now let’s move on to the gravy, which is arguably the star of the show in this easy slow cooker chicken gravy bowl.

• Ingredients for gravy:
• 2 cups of chicken broth (or stock)
• 1 packet of brown gravy mix (or homemade, if you prefer)
• Optional: a splash of Worcestershire sauce for depth

In a mixing bowl, combine your chicken broth with the brown gravy mix. Whisk them together until it’s smooth and free from lumps. If you’re using Worcestershire sauce, add it now for a flavorful kick. The depth of flavor this simple addition provides will elevate the entire dish, making your slow cooker bowl even better!

Combining chicken and gravy in the slow cooker

Once you have your seasoned chicken and gravy ready, it’s time to bring them together in the slow cooker.

• Place the chicken breasts at the bottom of the slow cooker.
• Pour the gravy mixture over the chicken.

Make sure every piece is coated by the gravy for maximum flavor infusion. If you're looking for more texture, you can throw in some chopped onions or mushrooms for an added layer of flavor!

Cooking to perfection

Now it's time to let the magic happen!

• Slow cooker settings:
• Set your slow cooker to low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours.

The longer cooking time on low will allow the chicken to be incredibly tender. Plus, the slower the cooking process, the more the flavors meld together, creating a mouthwatering experience that you’ll savor.

Shredding the chicken

Once the cooking time is up, your kitchen will smell heavenly! Carefully remove the chicken and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the chicken, which should pull apart effortlessly.

This is where the joy of cooking really kicks in; seeing the perfectly shredded chicken glistening with gravy will make you proud of your culinary skills.

Finalizing the dish with mashed potatoes

To serve your easy slow cooker chicken gravy bowl, you need a great base—enter mashed potatoes.

• Ingredients for mashed potatoes:
• 4-5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
• ½ cup milk or cream
• 4 tablespoons butter
• Salt and pepper to taste

Cook your potatoes in boiling water until tender, then drain. Mash them up with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until your desired creaminess is reached.

To assemble your dish, place a generous scoop of mashed potatoes in a bowl, top it with your tender shredded chicken, and pour gravy over everything. You can also sprinkle some chopped parsley for a pop of color.

This easy slow cooker chicken gravy bowl is not just a meal; it’s a hug in a bowl, perfect for those nights when you want comfort food without all the fuss.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your slow cooker and enjoy this meal that’s as easy as it is delicious!
