History and Origin of the Bubble Gum Colada

The colada has a long history as a creamy, tropical beverage, most famously known in the form of the Piña Colada. Over time, mixologists and home bartenders have experimented with flavors beyond the classic pineapple and coconut.

The idea of incorporating bubble gum flavor into drinks started with the rise of candy-inspired cocktails and mocktails. Bubble gum syrup, originally popular in desserts and milkshakes, found its way into fun, creative drinks. Today, Bubble Gum Colada is a delightful twist on a traditional colada, offering a playful, visually stunning, and sweet experience.

Ingredients Breakdown

Cream of Coconut

The base of the Bubble Gum Colada, cream of coconut provides the rich, smooth, and creamy texture.
Unlike coconut milk, it contains natural sweetness and enhances the tropical flavor.
Popular brands include Coco López and Real Gourmet Cream of Coconut.

Bubble Gum

The signature flavor of this drink comes from bubble gum syrup or actual bubble gum pieces.
Using real bubble gum requires blending and straining to extract flavor, while bubble gum syrup provides a more consistent and convenient option.
Brands like Monin Bubble Gum Syrup are great choices for an authentic candy-like taste.

Frosting

Used for rimming the glass, frosting not only looks beautiful but also adds a sweet, sticky element that pairs well with the drink’s theme.
Recommended flavors: vanilla, cotton candy, or bubble gum-flavored frosting.

Lollipop

A lollipop garnish adds a final playful touch.
Choose a color-coordinated lollipop for a visually appealing look.
Consider using swirl lollipops or bubble gum-flavored lollipops.

Optional Additions

Cotton Candy: Perfect for an over-the-top, whimsical garnish.
Edible Glitter: Gives a sparkling, magical appearance.
Sprinkles: Adds texture and color to the rim of the glass.
