Hot Fudge Pudding Cake

Self-saucing chocolate cake

A decadent chocolate dessert with a soft cake layer and gooey fudge sauce, perfect when served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

For the Cake Batter:

1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
1/4 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (120ml) milk
1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Topping:

1/2 cup (100g) packed brown sugar
1/4 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1 3/4 cups (420ml) hot water

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
2. Whisk flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
3. Stir in milk, butter, and vanilla until smooth.
4. Spread batter in the dish.
5. Mix topping ingredients (brown sugar, cocoa powder) and sprinkle over batter.
6. Pour hot water over the top (do not stir).
7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until the cake is set and the edges pull away.
8. Cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Notes

– Use Dutch-processed cocoa for a richer flavor.
– Replace water with strong coffee for enhanced chocolate depth.
– Serve with vanilla ice cream for contrast.
